Okay, backstory. In Part 1 ([link] you saw that John was holding back Sherlock, and because he was trying to get Sherlock from beating up Jim and getting in trouble, Jim sucker punched little Holmes and still got in trouble. Needless to say, Sherlock is really irritated with John.
